CASE STUDY: EAST RIDING COLLEGE - THIS IS THE FUTURE
East Riding College required a film to be used as a tool to promote the college to potential students. The brief was to produce a film that was "engaging, visually appealing, motivational and inspiring. It should encourage viewers to discover more and leave them in no doubt that East Riding College is a real option - be it for vocational courses or as a genuine alternative to traditional sixth form."
To create this film, we proposed a mash-up of stimulating visual media, remembering at all times the key message. We'd use an assortment of filming styles and dynamic editing - reflect the collegeʼs aim of appealing to its audience and challenging perceptions. Filming styles would include black and white, slow motion, green screen, colourised, timelapse and freeze frame. Weʼd hear from current college students, but not necessarily see them talk - using portraiture and slow motion to construct highly stylised images - more pop video than corporate promo. Weʼd see them in and around the college, but also in a studio location where weʼre using a white background to create a fresh look, with complementary text on screen re-enforcing key messages. Below is a page from our proposal showing our visual inspiration for film.
The film has been a great success, with East Riding College commenting, "I couldn't be happier with our new promotional video. It's pacey, fun and engaging but it gets all the right messages across too and it has somehow captured the "feel" of the College by getting across a kind of warmth and friendliness. Feedback from existing students and colleagues has been fantastic - after watching the video colleagues are energised and excited, and full of pride in the College and what it does for people."
